Seize the Moment

I've decided to head each post with a photo and tell its story below, so here goes...

this photo was taken outside my house in Hood River, OR. I believe the plant is the stalk of some kind of onion. its been dead awhile but i left it there because it looks so neat! It reminds me of a firework, frozen in all of its magnificent glory.
(This is another photo taken not far from my front door....)
I believe that there is two ways to get interesting photos, one is when you just glance at something as you walk by and snap a photo that shows a moment that will never be seen in motion again. The other is when you sit down and take a a few minuets out of your life to observe your surroundings and get to know every stone, worm and footprint around you, then take the picture.
This was one on the latter. I had been sitting on the ground on the rock wall around my driveway when i noticed these tiny mushroom-like fungus next to me, it took lots of tinkering with my camera to get in this close because each stalk is only about a centimeter tall!
